The 5th annual Tobacco Bowl 200 lap Sportsman race was held at the Bowman-Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, NC on January 3rd, 1959. Carl Burris of Leaksville, NC won the pole is a qualifying lap of 18.26 seconds. Burris jumped out to an early lead, and held it the entire race. This was Burris’ second Tobacco Bowl win as he also won the event in 1956.
