Charlotte Results, October 30, 1955
The 3rd Annual US Modified Championship was held at the ¾ mile dirt Charlotte Speedway on October 30, 1955. Bruton Smith Enterprises promoted the Nascar sanctioned event.
Fireball Roberts of Daytona Beach took the lead on the second lap from his 21st starting spot, and never looked back.
Roberts won a total of $1700 for the victory before a reported 13,500 fans. This was Roberts 19th victory of 26 feature starts in 1955.
Daddy's 2nd place finish was in a Sportsman car. He also finished sixth in another Charlotte race earlier in the season.
Thanks Randy, You don't have the full finishing order by any chance, do you ? I couldn't come up with the correct finishing positions for places 21 thru 44, but I know they were in the race.Jack
Pee Wee Jones finished 6th driving Frank Steelman Jr #9
Interesting to note that Ray Platte's and Ned Jarrett's cars were both built by Ralph Earnhardt. Norfolk's Platte would later lose his life at South Boston Speedway driving a modified usually driven by Bobby Isaac.
