Question of the Day for March 29,2011

There was almost a heated discussion between the Speed Channel's three pre-race talking heads (Wallace, Petty and Roberts) Sunday about how the Media and NASCAR is taking ALL the Camping World Truck Series, Nationwide and Cup victories of Kyle Busch to push him to 66 wins overall. The topic was that Kyle will soon move into third behing The King and the Silver Fox on the NASCAR all time win list if he keeps racing all three series. While I admit I had problems with young Mr. Busch and his attitudes, he has matured now (even if it took pressure from the sponsor to accomplish that) and I admit, obviously, the young man has driving talent running out of those big Busch ears, but I have a huge problem adding ALL wins together and equating that to the accomplishments of those who have the Cup wins. That indicates, look out D.W., your buddy is coming after you. NASCAR wouldn't let Bobby Allison rightfully move ahead of you, but Kyle is coming.

Ok, folks, what's your take on adding ALL wins together?

What a change! It's been awhile since I've checked in and I'm quite surprised. It may take me awhile to figure it our but first look it's really great.

I don't think they should do this. This starts a slippery slope. If you include all of Kyle's victories do you need to include the Late Model Sportsman victories of drivers like:Red Farmer,Sam Ard,Jack Ingram, and ect. Then what about the Modified series winners like: Richie Evans,Ray Hendrick,Jerry Cook, ect. Then what about the Darlington Dash series? Grand American series? This becomes a monster of a mess.

I doubt that you will find anybody in favor of this other than a Kyle Busch fan. It would almost be a criminal act to do this in my mind and I think it would cause the history books to be re-written. Where would it stop? Would we then have to consider wins at all Nascar sanctioned tracks in any division including Late Models? If that were the case then the King would drop like a rock down the list. Yes,Kyle Busch is fast,he can win alot on Friday and Saturday, but his record on Sunday falls a bit short of greatness. He still has alot of improving to do on that day.I did not see the discussion on Speed but did any one of those guys really come out in favor of doing this? I know Kyle Petty would not so that leaves KW and JR. Tell me it isn't so! They can think what they want but the truck series and the Nationwide series is definitly NOT the Cup series.Long live the King !

I like Kyle Busch's driving style and I believe he is one of the best talents on the tracks today. His NASCAR record and his wins in those threeseries is admirable. However, I don't see how anyone can just lump all his wins into one category. To my knowledge, that's never been done before. If that were legitimate, then you have to take a look at past drivers such as Richie Evans, Jerry Cook, Buzz Stevens, and many more who had NASCAR-sanctioned wins. I didn't see the exchange between the commentators last weekend, but frankly, I don't understand why any experienced NASCAR person would even broach that subject.

I think Kyle will most likely accomplish his place among the greats without any help from the media and NASCAR. He is without a doubt one of the best I've ever seen...and I am not one of his fans. How could they possibly lump these together and make any sense out of that and the prior history? I remember some words Bill France once said even more clearly as time passes on..."It's our circus and we get to choose the clowns!"

I realize they need some hype and attention to the sport, but for goodness sake don't screw up the historical records (again) by creating this illusion.

I agree that lumping these wins together is inappropriate and is an attempt to "rewrite history" to a certain degree. Kyle is talented and clearly will be able to write his own history without media hype. In my humble opinion, all this media "in-house" hype is another example of why racing fans from "way back" find the current state of NASCAR less than optimal.

No way should the wins in all of the series be lumped together. Does all of the other drivers, Allison, Pearson, etc., etc., have all of their victories counted. Wonder where theywould stand on the list. The media is making a big deal out of this. Too big in fact.

The bottom line is this. You simply cannot add Petty and Pearson's wins one way, then add Kyle's another way, THEN compare them both ! ( That's like saying "Lebron James has scored over 80 bazillion points since the dayhe started playing basketball"and comparing that total to Micheal Jordan's NBA scoring total only. )

it's apples and oranges. just a way for NASCAR to add hype. the viewer chooses how they want to feel about it.

Just like Jeff said...he is one of the best out there...some say the best since Tim Richmond or Dale Earnhardt! But, Allison, Pearson and Petty didn't have the trucks or Nationwide to fall back on. Yes I am a Kyle Busch fan, but he shouldn't be counted that high.

If you add all of the other driver's wins the way that the media has added Kyle Busch's wins then Richard Petty would be far down the list.

This is NASCAR wins in ALL Divisions. Think about it!!!

Kyle led over half of the race Sunday and got whipped when the money was on the table.

Only the media can make something out of nothingby putting clouds under Kyle's feet.

Jimmie Johnson is the one they should be talking about. His numbers in the Cup series are astounding. When other drivers crank em up they know who is the man to beat.

Is any current Cup driver as tough as Cale was ? As smart as David ? As consistent as Richard ? Or could turn a wrench and drive it like Bobby ?

Has Lebron won an NBA championship yet ?
