ford end mercury

General

Cody, these manufacturers are in survival mode. If vehicles aren't selling...they're gone. Ford is going about their business without any bailout money unlike the other U.S car companies. It used to be "Car Guys" along with engineering ran the car companies now it's Beancounters and the Feds. It will never be the same, guys. Cody Dinsmore said:
Last Year Pontiac closed...this year Mercury closes...what's next? I read on the internet that in 2009, FoMoCo sold over 90,000 Fusions, while they sold a little over 14,000 Milans,

ford end mercury

General

I guess I can see Ford's side of it, after all 90,000 vehicles sold is hard to justify. But it was a really good car. The best car I ever owned was a 1975 Mercury Montego 351. I bought it new because of Pearson winning on the race track. I remember the Mercury's of Bud Moore, the Mercury's of Cale and LeeRoy in 1969, the #12 of Bobby Allison in 1971 and the Purolator Mercury of David from the 70's. I'm sorry to see the line go. BTW, when it came time for my daughter to buy her first car...a 2003 Mercury Sable with a DOHC V-6. Still runs like new.Pete, sad in Michigan.

Too personal? Please let me know what you think.

General

Tim, no way were your comments disrespectful to Bobby Allison. He certainly didn't view them that way and enjoyed the exchange from what I heard. You know, anyone who is a race fan knew what you meant. Anyone who ever cheered on a driver knew what you meant. All of us have a favorite driver who got beat by one of those pesky other drivers once in a while.Unprofessional and uncalled for??? NOPE!! Keep doin' what you do, Tim.Pete

New Kids on the block

Current NASCAR

In my opinion, Johnny...The Chad and The Jimmie have stumbled since the spoiler came back and Jimmie's run-in with teammate Gordon. Also, RCR and Penske have found something with their cars and engines this year that make them very competitive. Roush can't find the handle although Biffle is getting better and better...don't know what's going on with Carl and Matt. Ganassi's car are quicker, also.I just think as soon as the 48 car gets that golden horse shoe back it will be business as usual. Lucky break Jimmie will have everything fall his way again.Pete

Do you have a favorite race of the 70s????

General

I can't put any race above the 1976 Daytona 500, but watching Bobby Allison win both races at Michigan International Speedway in 1971 with a '69 Mercury from Holman-Moody was my favorite '70's moment. My favorite memory after the race was handing a couple of beers to the Bud Moore hauler driver while he waited to leave the track. He took them with a "thank you" and a smile!

Let it never be forgot....that once there was a spot.....

Stock Car Racing History

I thought it was great except for a couple of things. The 20 minute speech for Big Bill from that Lawyer was much too long. I thought Brian France looked like an 8 year old fidgeting in church. Maybe he was uncomfortable among all the history that was in that room and finally realized what his Grandfather and Dad built..1. I enjoyed Lesa France Kennedy's speech about her Dad. It was heartfelt and warm.2. Seeing Cotton Owens and wishing I could sit between him and Pearson.3. Hoping that it was Martha Earnhardt's choice not to be on stage and not left out.4. Kyle's speech about his Dad.5. Listening to Darrell Windbag admit that Junior Johnson was the boss.6 The class of Jim France.7. The most memorable was Richard's thank you to the old Press who made the fans aware of this sport called Nascar Racing. Fans made the sport what it is and still do.

Petty Buick

Current NASCAR

Jay, thanks for that information. I couldn't remember the year when they switched. I'm still trying to get a hold of the owner to see if he still has it and if I can get a real good look at it.Pete

Petty Buick

Current NASCAR

About 10 years ago I was working in a house for an couple and when he got home he opened the door to his large garage and I saw what looked like the front end of a Nascar Buick Cup car. It was painted only in a white primer but had tires and rims from the early 80's or so. I asked him about the car and he found it in a junk yard in North Carolina. From what he told me, it was built by Petty Enterprises but was never raced because the Petty's decided to go to Pontiacs instead. I'm going to try and get back with him and see if the car is still in his possession and ask some more questions and try and get pictures. Is it possible that a car was junked like this? I would think it would be rebodied and raced. Maybe Billy can chime in on this. If it's for real, this car found its way to South Lyon, Michigan.
