2012 Nationwide Series Schedule

General

Jeff, that's a great point. It seems like that the people, be it drivers, crew chiefs or crew members that are really aspiring to go to Cup love having the Cup-backed teams and drivers participate so they can measure themselves up against the best. But the teams that make the series their home are a dying breed for the same reason. I remember James Finch saying a couple of years ago back when Bliss was driving his car that 'Carl Edwards and Jack Roush need their ___ run out of the Nationwide Series', lol.

From a personal standpoint, as a race fan, I am losing my interest in the Nationwide Series because not only do we know going in that there is a 99% chance of Kyle or Carl winning the race but the way they utterly dominate the race, leading by huge margins makes the races lose a lot of their appeal and the series its identity with every passing year. The rule change NASCAR made this year about choosing one series for points is a good one as far as the points battles go but the races themselves have remained the same predictable ones as they were in the past few years where the same couple of Cup drivers win more than 90% of them. I watch old Busch races from the 90s and can't believe what the series has turned into anymore.

2012 Nationwide Series Schedule

General

Sad to see only 6 standalone events. It'll be the Carl, Kyle and Brad show everywhere else again unless NASCAR put a cap on the number of starts Cup regulars can make in a lower series.

Little To Run In The K&N Pro Series In 2012

General

Chad Little ran in the series that was sponsored by Winston in 1987 and is now sponsored by K&N. That is simply how I look at it. I guess we just have to agree to disagree on this one.

Little To Run In The K&N Pro Series In 2012

General

I am not saying that we should forget about Winston's great contribution to the sport just because we have a different series sponsor now. Far from it, all I'm saying is that I don't feel it is an insult to Winston if someone in the media simply refer to what are still Cup races from the Winston era by the name the Cup series is referred to at present.

Personally, I always use the period-specific nomenclature for all purposes.

Little To Run In The K&N Pro Series In 2012

General

I honestly don't see the big deal in calling the series by the current sponsor name. Winston got the publicity they deserved when they were active sponsors and now Sprint, K&N or whoever is the active sponsor of the same respective series in the present day gets their names mentioned for their contribution toward keeping the series running. Good luck to Jesse in the K&N Series next year.

I HAVE THE ANSWER. IT'S SIMPLE AND INEXPENSIVE

General

I agree, Tim. I'm not even sure why NASCAR knocked down the fuel capacity down to 18 from 22 gallons a few years ago in the first place. Another thing that might help is if Goodyear didn't bring tires that outlasted the fuel. They are probably playing it safe and bringing rock hard tires that won't blow out easily and I somewhat blame the testing ban for that too. If Goodyear are going to come up with a soft tire that falls off properly without blowing out, they need to be able to test more often on the tracks they actually race at, but teams are forced to do most of their testing on other brand tires at non-NASCAR tracks.

Come Homestead, It probably would not go down too well if the championship came down to who managed to get more fuel in their car during the final pit stop of the season.

New Contender for Cup

General

I am quite confident Jimmie will win the Chase this year again. #48 can maximize the ten race 'mini season' better than anyone else. And for someone like that, getting those ten races right is a lot easier than getting thirty six races right just because the odds of something bad happening being far greater with more races. Heck, just having to deal with one instead of four plate races on your way to the championship makes it so much easier.

Is this a Chase rant? You bet. Thirty six race season where less than a third of it actually counts for the championship will never seem right to me.

New nose for 2011, what do you think?

General

It definitely looks better than the old nose and ugly splitter braces it had, but it's still a generic facia with headlight and grill stickers to differentiate each manufacturer. When NASCAR adopt the body style that is used on the new Nationwide car, having a unique front-end for each manufacturer's model to match the stock dimensions, just like the old days, that will be something.
