Concord Race Results, October 27, 1957
This is the race results from the October 27th, 1957 U.S. Modified Championship held at Concord Speedway. The 200 lap race was a Bruton Smith promotion. After 2 days of time trials Banjo Matthews driving a Fish Carburetor 1937 Ford started on the pole, and also won the championship event. Race leaders were: Banjo Matthews, Dink Widenhouse, Ralph Smith, and Cotton Owens. Unfortunately Richmond driver Earl Bryant died instantly from a fatal crash after going over a 15 foot embankment in the first turn, and striking a pine tree.
Jack, Langhorne's 1957 ROC was October 13th........two weeks prior to the Concord event. Among drivers competing in both events, their Langhorne results were pretty impressive: Glenn Guthrie 1st, George Dunn 2nd, Bobby Waddell 5th, Al Tasnady 6th!** www.thevintageracer.com
Bobby - I checked the Langhorne date, and results today also. I was not able to find the full results, only the top 25. George Dunn got his Langhorne invitation by winning a qualification race at Wilson, and Ralph Earnhardt won one at Hickory.
