The Lions 200 was 2 separate 100-lap LMS races sponsored by the local Lions Clubs, and held at the ½ paved Middle Georgia Raceway on September 25th, 1967. Bob Leach started on the pole for the first race with a speed of 90.135 mph. Ten of the first 12 qualifiers were driving 1964 Chevelles. The fastest Ford qualifier was Jody Ridley who started 11th in the 1st race. The field for the 2nd race was inverted. Jody Ridley was the first drive to ever go over the wall at MGR. Ridley’s crew charged that Bruce Brantley forced Ridley over the 3rd turn wall on the 85th lap of the first race. Ridley’s crew managed to fix the car good enough for him to start the 2nd 100 lap race where he finished 8th. It interesting that Brantley name does not appear in the results from first race. I’m not sure if that was a mistake, or if Brantley was driving in relief for someone else. Bob Leach of Tucker, GA won the first 100-lap race, and Tiny Lund from Cross, SC went to victory lane in the second race. The event had a $5000.00 purse, and attracted 6,000 fans on a warm sunny day. Both Leach, and Lund collected $500 for their victories.
