New nose for 2011, what do you think?

General

Reminds me of 1985 when Bill Elliott was the hottest thing since sliced bread. He won 11 races that year, all on superspeedways. And right after he won the Winston 500 at Talledega by making up two laps under green, Ol' DW was whining and complaining that Elliott had the advantage because he was driving a Ford. Well, Duh! Nascar never realized it until 1987 when they changed they Thunderbird body, but the 83-86 Thunderbird body was tremendously smaller and narrower that the Monte Carlo at that time. And they never had time to get them side-by-side, because the Fords would blow their doors off!-Cody

Thinking back a few years when every team would cry and sing the blues about "Oh the Fords get a 1/4" added to their rear spoiler" and "The Chevy teams have an unfair advantage" I'm glad they all use a common template... somewhat. I agree the cars need to look more like the cars from the manufacturers but I don't see that being a possibility in the modern era. Aero is huge and there is no way to equalize it for all teams, and it wouldn't be much of a sport if one manufactuer had a better package. If you ask me aero has nearly killed this sport and it all started when NASCAR tried to "Add a 1/4" here and take a 1/8" there." This is why we have common templates now.

If they would just go back to stock sheet metal a new nose would not be an issue. Plastic noses are for late models.

New Nascar Book Includes Loads of Artifacts

General

Thank You so much for your kind words! In regards to Don's comment about "repo's" Yes, there are sick-minded people who try to make a quick dollar off of something that they claim to be the real deal. However, I think it's a great idea to include those sort of items in the books to show fans. When I got Dale the Movie DVD set a few years ago for Christmas, it included a 1998 Daytona 500 ticket from that historical race. Of course it was a repo, but you'd pay so much more if it was the real thing. I just think it's a great thing to do!

New Nascar Book Includes Loads of Artifacts

General

I saw this book, and even though it is a bit pricy, It looks to be a good book, and in every book, it has sleeves on almost every page of reproduction artifacts like a 1948 Beach Race Poster, a 1974 Nascar DriverLicence, a program from the first Daytona 500, and a presscredential from the first Brickyard 400. It has many, many more items and information too.

The site calls it a "Time Capsule of Nascar"

Tim and D.W. riding around together

Stock Car Racing History

As I re-read this topic and your post Legend, I think that could become a new Christmas song. If you re-organized the words, I think it might be a "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" hahaha. Or in this case, it would be something like "How the Legend Saved the Goat" I'm sure you could figure something better sounding though. haha

In the true spirit of Christmas, and being the true Legend I am, I have invited D.W. to my home to celebrate the wonderful holiday. We are having baked gopher, roasted potatoes, rice, carrots, and red velvet cake for dessert. The fact that I had to drive verifies the fact that D.W. still suffers from the hallucinations that have him believe NASCAR history began in 1980, and that his announcing duties on tv qualify as "talent". I further understand that Santa is still ticked about last year when D.W. yelled at the raindeer up his chimney. He yelled "boogity, boogity, boogity" and the raindeer took off like a rocket. Took the elves two hours to get them under control. So, D. W. is getting nothing for Christmas this year so I am trying to be kind.

More Petty News

General

This morning, I was watching the Speed Report, Nascar Victory Lane, and the Wind Tunnel. I honestly can't remember which said it, but sometime this week, Richard Petty Motorsports will shut down and file for bankruptcy. But....they willimmediately reopen as Petty Enterprises!
