Jeff,You've got a great site here, I'm a fan of the historic side of stock car racing and this site is the best going for that, so I hope you'll be able to keep that theme intact. It's difficult to be everything to everybody and since there are other sites for Boats, Motorcycles, Open Wheel (sprints & midgets), etc. I think keeping this site as primarily a historic stock car site is the way to go. I like the fact that I can search a driver's name on your site and see photos of him or her from the first old modified coupe they may have driven on a dirt or asphalt bull ring to their last ride in Cup car or at Indianapolis. Another great part of this site is all of the car owners, mechanics and crew people that are recognized here as well. I'm sure you'll get it right with whatever you do.Thanks!David Bentley

How would you fix NASCAR?

General

I knew when I started this some good ideas would come out of it, but Tim leeming hit the nail on the head when he stated the obvious problem. Common sense plays no part in most of the rules & decisions made these days, corporate pocket books do. It's all about lining the pockets of the people who make the rules and the people and companies whose pockets are effected by those rules. If you don't think it's a "who knows who", and "who you are" playing field, just think back to what happened to independent, non corporate sponsored Carl Long when he was caught with a motor that was oversized by such a little amount that it probably wouldn't have given him another mph or 2 on the track at Charlotte I believe. Motor was probably a worn out piece the big funded teams couldn't risk running any longer. Fine was way, way up there if I remember correctly.Wonder what would have happened if it had been Carl Long who flipped Brad Kesowloski instead of Carl Edwards?

How would you fix NASCAR?

I saw some negative press on the national news regarding the Edwards/Keselowski incident and how Nascar was losing fans and the races were boring. This doesn't help any of us who have loved the sport most of our lives only to see it become too commercialized and too technical. The racing needs to be the show, not concerts or gimmicks. I know Nascar has a "fan panel" but I don't know anybody that's on it, but maybe if enough people could voice opinions here some good idea may come forward. I think some of the shock technology and other technology should be eliminated, let them go back to the old style shocks. I think the radial tire has also hurt the sport, but I don't know if going back to the bias ply tire would be an option. Gone are the days when a good driver could hustle an ill handling car, Kyle Busch is one of the best out there and even he can't make up the difference if the car isn't pretty close. I also wonder what it would be like if they went to more of a Saturday night style format where instead of a 400 or 500 mile race, they ran a couple qualifing races in order to the make the show, then a consi and a feature over the same 3-4 hour period. Start the fast guys in the back and run just enough laps to let them get to the front. Let's face it winning the pole really doesn't mean much anymore except for pit stall choice. As for the "Chase", I think it should include only the 12 finalists by themselves runing the last 5-10 races of the season on different style tracks with the ability to drop one or two bad finishes from the final tally. How to reset the points before the chase would be another debate, but qualifing race wins could play a part to keep them from sandbagging in the regular season. The "Chase" races could use qualifing laps and start by time, but be sprint type races only, maybe with one pit stop. I personally like the 3 attempt green white checker rule, it always seems to be somebody running in 10th and 11th or something that get together and ruin the finish, had McMurray not crashed on Sunday, Montoya and Busch may have been door to door at the checkered flag. At least with the 3 attempt rule the chances are much better to see a "race" for the finish. As for the lack of people in the stands, well part of that is Nascar got greedy when TV brought "new" fans to the races, that wore off and they drove away some of the old school fans by some changes they have made to the racing, but a lot of those empty seats are just because people can't afford it right now.

NASCAR driver dispute resolution concept

I think your focusing on the wrong proportion Jim, if old Mark lands a jab straight ahead, given the difference in height, I said say Michael will be on the mat pretty quickly. :)

NASCAR driver dispute resolution concept

General

Hey, I think Nascar is missing an opportunity to boostinterest in racing and add revenue. Here's my idea, instead of that goofy talent show thing Speed is doing, why not a Tuesday night fight card for any drivers who want to vent their frustrations with each other from the previous weekend event, Sprint Cup, Nationwide or Trucks. They could make them wear the protective headgear and boxing gloves and slug it out til they were satisfied. If you thought they'd cool down too much by Tuesday, just set the ring up at the track and let them go at it after the race. They could air it live on Speed right after the race. This wouldsave on crashed and destroyed race cars and keep drivers and fans safer. Just a thought. :)

Edward vs Keselowski

General

I think what Nascar had in mind was letting the driver's bump and bang a little under caution laps on the track or maybe get into a shoving match after the race and having a few derogatory comments about each other even if the had to bleep out a few words. What they didn't have in mind I'm sure, is to have a car in the grandstands or a driver killed in a 180mph flying payback. When that car came back up on it's wheels, I crossed my fingers that Kesolowski was okay, cause it looked bad. Carl just executed the worst judgement he possibly could have, in when and where he decided to pay Brad back and he's lucky he doesn't have to live with what could have been a disasterous result. As for what to do with him, well since he's had a couple incidents, I don't think sitting out Bristol would be too harsh a punishment, I think Carl needs to check the anger a little. While I'm on my soap box, I'm tired of seeing tons of sponsor products on the winning cars roof, I'm tired of seeing drivers all take a drink before the interview and have to recite 75 sponsors names. The sponsors and the commercialism has overtaken the racing. Just say: my car ran great, thanks to all my sponsors (we can see the car and the uniform) and leave it at that. One last gripe, I would like to see a rule put in place where you could not use the word "awesome" in an interview, it is way over used and there are other words available. What ever happened to, good, great, super, excellent or maybe even the old "dialed in" now and again.Just my pet peeves, great to have this site to voice them. :)

I think this site is great, there's a little bit of everything on here and a lot of neat racing fanatics to share memories with. Hope everybody continues using the site. For people who really prefer stock cars, I suggest you contact member Ray Lamm and get his photo sharing site address, he has more stock related items that you can look at in month, he has them separated in categories from driver, to division, to make of car. If you like stock cars he's your man. I do hope you continue participating on this site, I think all race fans have their favorite era and type of car, but a true race fan I feel, appreciates seeing all the great photos posted here.

Bumpertag, I understand your dilemia, but I too prefer the old modifieds, late model sportmans to the newer stockers. I do enjoy the old grandnational photos on this site. Here's a site for you that is devoted to just old full bodied stockers, don't know if you have seen it, but thought I'd send it your way. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=289913
