Great food at Sumter Speedway!!!

My wife Ann says the same thing about the Sumter Speedway concessions. Must really be good!
Tuesday night, the radio show "Racin' The Way It Was" was honored to have Bobby Allison as a guest for almost 45 minutes. At the end of the time with Bobby, as I am prone to do, I made some rather personal comments to Bobby. Before the show was over I had received an e-mail from one party and a text from another. In essence, the contents were:
TEXT MESSAGE: Love the way you talk with these great drivers honoring them with your memories and feelings. Keep up the good work.
E-MAIL: Expressing your personal feelings and preferences as a host on a radio talk show is unprofessional and uncalled for. While I enjoy the show, your emotional sidebars are not necessary.
I am what I am. I am a race fan from a long time back. I have very personal feelings about the history, the men and women associated with it and such things just come out of me when I'm talking with these guys. Our show has had some of the greats on with us and what I say comes from the heart.
All of you who listen to the show, let me know what you think. Those of you who don't listen, give it a shot next Tuesday but think about this; if you had a chance to express your deep admiration and appreciation to someone who has been such a part of your life, would you do it? Would you do it for all the world to hear? I probably won't change, because that's just who I am. But I respect your opinions, at least most of you.
Thanks,
Tim
Very special thanks go out to all the fine folks at NASCAR and Charlotte Motor Speedway for their efforts in assisting the United States Military in developing outstanding camouflage. All those fans we were told were there by D.W. were wearing the special Charlotte Motor Speedway camouflage which made them appear as empty seats. Great job guys!!! Keep up the great work.

The local radio station I listen to, B-106.7, is having an "all 70s weekend", which started last night and goes through Monday. I have been listening far into the night last night and I had the radio on from 9 until 3:30 while I was working in the yard. I have heard so many songs that took me back to those times of the 70s, the early part of which I was actually racing, and the rest of which I was going to races all over the circuit. I would hear a song and think "man, we wore that one out on the eight track heading to Daytona. Another song comes up and I'm thinking "that's Charlotte, all weekend". So funny how the songs take you back. Seems there was actually a recent country song about that.
Anyway,I started thinking about what race of all the races in the 70s was my favorite. Wow, that was a mistake. I had flash backs (not the Timothy Leary kind) of so many races. Richard winning in Charlotte for the first time. Bobby Allison and that Matador winning Darlington, David Pearson winning Darlington, The 1976 and 1979 Daytona 500s, not to mention the 1970 with the winged Plymouth carrying Peter Goodwill Hamilton to victory. Oh so many great races. I finally decided NOT to decide on one today. I want to hear what you all have to say about your memories of the 1970 races and then we'll take that trip back. Maybe, on Tuesday night's "Racin' the Way it Was" radio show, we can get callers to talk about their favorite races of the 1970s.
Think about it. Can't wait to hear what you all have to say.
Tim
